Mike Skinner AKA The Streets gives respect to Daft Punk's Tron ....
Mike Skinner is re-known for his appreciation of Thomas Bangalter - one half of Electronic French duo Daft Punk. Theirdebut film score, recorded at AIR Lyndhurst Studios in London, is titled TRON : LEGACY.
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets blogged on his official the-streets blog
"the tron daft punk album is blowing my mind. nothing but synthesizers set to a 160 piece cinematic orchestra."
The original motion picture score for "TRON: Legacy", composed and produced by Daft Punk, was be released by Walt Disney Records / EMI Music on 6th December 2010.
Skinner respectfully noted
"if they’d have done a load of side chained electro with disco loops and chicago soul crooners it would have felt so expected. thomas bangalter is my idol."
The Streets star is due to release the highly praised new single Going Through Hell featuring vocal additions from Robert Harvey on 31st January 2011 and his much awaited new album Computers and Blues on 7th February 2011. You can pre-order Computers and Blues on iTunes now
Skinner concluded
"i need to play with my 909 though for sure. in fact let me hit up logic for a hot min to button a quick cinematic beat…"
UK Rapper Stylah has united faces from the UK urban scene for his directorial debut, "Prologue", filmed in the style of Nickelback's hit video, Rockstar. Each of the 25 + cameos perform a line from the track which happens to be the intro to Stylah's debut album Treading Water, as previously mentioned here on LikeTheSound and out now on iTunes.
STYLAH - PROLOGUE *EXCLUSIVE*
The video, which is the follow up to Stylah's controversial viral hit, Killa, an anti gun track with a graphic video banned by TV and featured on The Sun's website. Features the likes of actor/director Noel Clarke, rapper/radio presenter/entrepreneur Charlie Sloth, radio personalities Ace + Vis, rapper/actor Bashy, comedian Doc Brown, our local celebrity ex ganster Dave Courtney and numerous other rap artists including Sway, Sincere, Lowkey, Smiler, G Frsh, DocChrome, DJ Snips, DJ 279, D Raw, Ill Mill, Mega (SAS), K Koke, Wordplay, Tony D, Strapzy, Fusion, Loudmouth, and Haze.
Stylah remarked "People always tell me that I have an ability to say what other people are thinking so I thought it would be a powerful visual to have the collective UK scene rapping the words to my song. It also gave an opportunity for me to put some people from different sides of the scene who would never normally work with each other on the same project."
Treading Water was released on iTunes in October on Stylah's own LDN Global imprint and get its full release in January.
LikeTheSound is a huge fan of Clare Maguire, click on the name tag below to find more of LikeTheSound's coverage on Clare.
Now here is some more exciting news, Clare Maguire has recorded a cover of one of my favorite artists Antony and the Johnsons incredible song 'Hope there's someone' which you can listen to on Hype Machine!
For what you are about to receive is glorious and highly praiseworthy. What a blessing it is Robert Harvey and Mike Skinner decided to join creative forces, load up the JV1080 and find the Church bells patch.
Whilst achieving everything that should be wonderful about a Christmas tune with Robert Harvey's vocals sounding pleasingly akin to Paul McCartney in the Wings era and Mike Skinner on keys caressed with musical warmth - I Don't Want It To Be Me also comes with a neat video featuring wintery festive and haunting scenes of Nature, Taxidermy, Log fires, Chestnuts roasting, Harvey and Skinner - the squirals being one of my favourite scenes.
Robert Harvey
As Mike Skinner has already pointed out on his
blog http://www.the-streets.co.uk/ - Christmas is also the season to be lonely "...at some point someone scuppered your dreams. and you’re hurting..." The truth in that statement is what makes this song so essential.
A good, full-bodied, well-written, beautifully sung song can meaningfully fill the gaps you need filled in a deeply personal way and this song has got all of those qualities we need to celebrate and release a little of that hidden pain in the process.
I Don't Want It To Be Me is so well put together I feel guilty for not paying for it. Of all the songs I have purchased on iTunes this month - none is as deserving of my 99p than Scrooge and Marley's - I Don't Want It To Be Me.

After endeavoring the consumption of powdered protein drinks, sessions at the gym and brisk 7 mile walks, Mike Skinner headed off to Norfolk to get arty for the creative that is the new Artwork for Computers and Blues. Mike has now revealed the Artwork for The Streets much awaited new album titled Computers and Blues.
The quiet before the storm emits cool glassy tones surrounding the brightly lit rose enhanced room in which Mike Skinner stands - he is probably contemplating his next plan of action after The Streets. This album cover is instantly a very memorable picture, it stays in your mind after just one glance and it is an appropriate subject because the Norwich U.E.A Campus is where The Streets will be performing live on 28th February during the first leg of the Computers and Blues 2011 Tour
From Luxemburg's 'Towering Inferno' for Original Pirate Material, the new Architecture for Computers and Blues is cool, obscure and smooth with a welcoming warm glow beckoning the Outside Inside.
I'm very much looking forward to see the rest of the Artwork for the inlays/booklet.
"Today I ran with the idea that if you dress smart you think smart." Say's Mike Skinner in the latest The Beats video. Skinner looks immensely smart and sounds smart too, so he must have been thinking likewise.
If you like lots of little buttons and studio gear - your attention span will be sucked into your screen!
"I spent the morning with a revived passion for my album Cyberspace and Reds, so I decided to write a new song, I got half way through..." It's a lovely song titled Came Through The Door, I hope we will hear the completed version soon.
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets, tweet / blogged to his followers this new song titled Too Numb.
I love this song with a passion, the additively eloquent vocals of Robert Harvey cascading through the subdued,crystal- clear voice of Mike Skinner...
"Exhaust fumes and the frost look no different from your breath, but for a blueness and a thickness and a depth. The scraping goes through me vibrating my shoes But happy Iam as I pause for the thought Only two moments ago I was dreaming toastie and slowly I showed up in realism"
Too Numb is top quality song, I would be very happy to have purchased it on iTunes and I would be sitting here knowing I had more than got my money's worth. How lucky for us that Mike Skinner is sharing these clever, thought-provoking songs with us - video's include via youtube.
"It's freezing!"
Too Numb has received exciting feedback already, so ride-on, walk-harder, run-faster or just stop what your doing and listen ... it's
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets and Ted Mayhem latest The Beats video where @skinnermike takes Twitter to a new and exciting level replying to his followers by video is a real nice treat for any one's peepers.
Amidst the soft bubbles created by Aromatherapy bath products, Skinner starts off by informing us that "Birmingham is not the same city I used to get robbed in". Urging his body in and out of the water teasingly he goes on to reply to @ClareThornhill who Tweeted that she is voting for Mike Skinner to have a star on the Walk of stars in Birmingham. He concluded that before he gets a star in Birmingham he should get a star in cyberspace. *
Does anybody know why it is that soap kills the bubbles in your bubble bath? Strange but true!
The full tracklisting for The Streets highly anticipated fifth and final album 'Computers And Blues' has just been released by the NME. full article here ...
There are some very interesting titles here, I just can't wait to here them.
I'm very excited to see that my top 3 favourite tracks that I have blogged about countless times have made it to the final tracklisting,
Roof Of Your Car, A Blip On A Screen and Outside Inside,
so on this knowledge alone I'm already feeling very confident of it's greatness.
The final tracklisting for Computers and Blues. 'Outside Inside' 'Going Through Hell' 'Roof Of Your Car' 'Puzzled By People' 'Without A Blink' 'Blip On A Screen' 'Those That Don't Know' 'Soldiers' 'We Can Never Be Friends' 'ABC' 'OMG' 'Trying To Kill M.E.' 'Trust Me' 'Lock The Locks'

This is the highly anticipated mixtape from Maverick Sabre'The Travelling Man'.
London born, Irish raised singer songwriter Maverick Sabre is breaking the mould and this is why you are going to be hearing a lot more from Marverick on LikeTheSound.
With his soulful voice and skillful guitar playing, he draws audiences in and leaves them in wonder.
Silencing crowds with his lamenting social-political content, this young rising star is generating a lot of interest from press and booking agents alike. Recently tipped by Hot Press as being the Irish newcomer who will give the established artists some serious competition, Maverick was also nominated 'Best Homegrown Act' in the 2008 Urban Takeover Awards.
Tracklisting

Yes! The Streets are back on tour as of Friday 18th February 2011 kicking off in Edinburgh. Mike Skinner tweeted the long awaited news to his followers this afternoon, saying Let the madness ensue.
As you can see from the poster below, The Streets new album title is now confirmed as Computers and Blues. And will be released on 7th February 2011. This is the most exciting news I have been blessed with in ages. I CAN'T WAIT!!
Casting Down Your Pod - Beat Stevie with Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem is an interesting, comical, occasionally (seemingly) irrelevant and often outrageous view of the news and current affairs of the world around us by Mike Skinner and Ted Mayhem layered between respectfully decent and pretty damn awesome music of all genres and era's.
Casting Down Your Pod is unpredictable but one thing is for sure, you MUST NOT MISS AN EPISODE!
We are currently on Casting Down Your Pod 3, here are the download links so far ...
Old song, new video, said Mike Skinner AKA The Streets. Trust Me isn't a brand new song, Skinner gave a sample of Trust Me to his followers via Twitter last year and took it on the road with him live. It was highly popular with re-mixers, one of my favourite of those being the Calzo Houdini Remix, you can listen to it here on YouTube Trust Me - The Streets - CalzoHoudini Remix
Trust Me was also massive with DJ's and students and today it sounds as fresh as the day it was born.
Trust Me is immediately recognised by the hearty, soulful backing vocals, crucial beats and clever bars ... I see Alice in Wonderland, I see Malice in Sunderland, Mouse to house, I love this land, The where without, it's Thumberland.
The video version of Trust me is quite a bit shorter which is a shame because there are some really great lyrics missing - Why is there so much noise, Reading info, buying toys, We all fear of company, But we are fierce anonymously, Into shit on the Internet, Clashing people, chatting evil, But we are cheery social sorts, With the pleasing photo forward, Pass the love around and back to me, Walking down a madman's street, The music in my ears is fleeting, Struggle to shuffle to the same beat, We are nothing if not nice, We have a pretty buttered knife, Is the skyline sliced up into pieces and broken steel and strife, Anything you tell me, Yes, yes, I will believe, But again and I suspect, Again and I will leave, Slow burn a little heaven, Roaming yearnings for devon, Coburn '67, Don't work for them, Trust me. - perhaps they will remain for the album version?
Mike Skinner did suggest last year that Trust Me was safe for the new album - only known so far as Computers and Blues - lets hope so.
While we are on the subject of which tracks will essentiate the new Streets album, I'm really holding out strong for Roof of Your Car, Love light of my life, Where my heart has been, Blip On A Screen, Outside inside and Infamy.
The video is great, with beautiful close ups, bars, fat cigars, take-aways, galleries and Stellas. It has an underworld feel to it like scenes from a modern day Pacino or De Niro film but more Arty and with brief appearances from The Music's Robert Harvey who has been working with with Skinner in the studio earlier this year and Ted Mayhem, there's lots to see in this video, it's a real treat.
Navy and Black! What springs to mind when you hear that? Do not mix! by any chance?
Don't you believe it! Mike Skinner AKA The Streets blogged this week on his new website www.the-streets.co.uk"I saw a thing recently that said DO NOT BE AFRAID OF NAVY WITH BLACK..."
In my window dressing for Principles days I was told NEVER to mix Navy and black. I disagreed with this bog-standard theory because colours are an expression of freedom to discover and enhance our mood, personality and style be it decor, art, textiles or other. In the case of fashion, if it suites the person wearing it, lead by example!
In my personal opinion, I think Black and Navy worn together brings to light a dramatic, mysterious, slightly masculine look, especially when worn by women.
I studied colour therapy some years back and learned Navy means Truth, Healing and Intuition, while Black is Silent, Elegant and Powerful. With this in mind, it is easy to understand why Mike Skinner is not afraid to wear Navy and Black together as seen above ...
Skinner is most usually seen wearing Black and/or famously - Pink. A person who shows favouritism to Pink, especially in a male is often found to be Compassionate, Faithful and Sensitive and displays a child-like Innocence. Pink is also renown to have a calming effect, helpful indeed when you live in the busy mind of a modern day genius.

This past week has seen a virtual Mexican wave spread across Twitter with the return of @skinnermike AKA Mike Skinner AKA The Streets and his dedicated 88'717 strong Twitter following, and that figure - as I write - is after @skinnermike having had a full year off Twitter!
Skinner, always the leader has took Twitter to another level, by replying to his followers via video messages as posted here on LikeTheSound. It is a very personal and real way to correspond with his friends and followers whereas so many stars simply get someone else to tweet on their behalf - very lazy.
Skinnermike's latest video replies goes out to my good friend Tess DeJong, who is responsible for the brilliant Streets website titled The Streets Blog , Mad Decent DJ, Producer and Songwriter Diplo and Jevo whom I have not had Twitterings with as yet but you can follow him on Twitter jevo90 should you need to.
So, Shit on the Villa!
Something To Hide, there will be something in this video that everyone will empathise and relate to, or as Skinner says if they don't there's something wrong.
I'm so glad Mike Skinner has made this and his other recent video's. To create these thoughts and observations in his mind and just leave them there to get lost with the daily clutter of in-and-out thoughts would quite literally be a crime. Once hatched to the public, these little video's outgrow the effort and time it took to make. So please Mike Skinner, keep creating so we can linger, learn and grow. Now readers, take the time to listen to Skinners words, pause for thought and listen again, because each time I listen, I understand a little more.

David McAlmont is right up there with my of-all-time-favourite artists. This talented young man has so much passion and feeling he is compelling and thrilling to watch.
I was delighted to learn on David's blog that he has some very special concerts coming up. The first of which begins on the 1st October 2010.
David McAlmont, the highly praised and respected singer/songwriter based in London, says "This is a very special concert that represents the start of a retrospective journey through my musical past, one that I hope will reconnect me with the people who have kindly supported my music over the years. I’ve never done shows like these- that cover the entire 18 years of my career- and I sincerely hope that you will can be present to experience the joy that I have been rediscovering in my back-catalogue. This first concert will be at a small independent theatre in the Bethnal Green (apparently it’s where one of the Brother’s Kray got married), capacity 72 and will be performed by me and Guy Davies on piano, an opportunity to experience salon like intimacy ahead of the full line-up on November 22nd. The beautifully talented Jasmine Rodgers has kindly agreed to open for us."
If you would like to appear on Like The Sound, send your video's, photo's and press releases to Addolorata1977@yahoo.co.uk Greatness will prevail in all cases.
