It was indeed "a beautiful day" after seeing Mike Skinner's beautiful face. The camera crew took full advantage of Mike's photogenic face and large innocent eyes with their close range filming. I hope this is the beginning of more to come from Mike Skinner in the acting world. His 30 seconds was convincing and full of engagement.

Well done Mike, you have made us proud again.

Computers and Blues

The Streets fifth and final album Computers and Blues was previously anticipated for a February release but didn't make the deadline is now rumoured for an October 2010 release.
If the tracks Mike Skinner gave his fans a taste of last year via twitter are anything to go by and of course his excellent track-record for delivering high quality bangers, I feel confident in suggesting this album is going to be massive and well worth the wait when it reaches our ears in it's final state.

The Streets Interviews

Earlier this year, LikeTheSound brought to you, two exclusive interviews with with The Streets

In February I had the great honour of being approached by The Streets drummer Cassell TheBeatmaker to do an interview

Later in March, I also had the greatest of pleasure in interviewing the soul-filled voice and live-legend in The Streets
 Kevin Mark Trail who took time out to do this fantastic interview.

Mike Skinner quotes

One of the things I really love about Mike Skinner is his ability to word the things we think but never seem able to say in an identifiable way. Mike is a deep thinker and a sensitive soul who can say things that will stay with you for the rest of your life - he is also a cheeky chap who can render you in fits of laughter.
Here are a few Mike Skinner quotes I love to love.

"A LIKKLE PIECE FAT OFF"
It means "a little bit amazing" 2009

"When the shadows in the sun grow long,

We listen to a slow, slow song"

~~~~~
"Turn left up the street
Nothing but grey concrete and dead beats
Grab something to eat
Maccy D's or KFC
Only one choice in the city
Done voicing my pity now lets get to the nitty gritty
Tune reminds me of my first e
Polite, unique, still sixteen and feeling horny
Point to the sky feel free
A sea of people all equal smiles in front and behind me"
Weak Becomes Heroes
~~~~~

"You never think, think, think,

I wear pink, pink, pink"

~~~~~
Grant Stoddard for Nerve.com "Have you noticed a massive change in the way you interact with girls since becoming successful?"
"Not just girls - boys too. Let's not discriminate. People listen to a lot more of what you're saying. That's the interesting thing, and it's quite enjoyable. Being listened to feels good." 2003
Chris Parkin for Timeout.com
"Anything that needs to change in London?"
"The whole world’s one big organism, really, so it’s almost a bit xenophobic to start saying London needs that, London needs this. I think London does pretty fucking well. It’s a great place to live. I selfishly live here because I find the culture really happening, the art scene, the music scene. You can see any band in the world here. It’s happening, it really is."
~~~~~

"All stare, eyes glazed
Garage burnt down, the fire raged
For 40 days and in 40 ways
But through the blaze they see it fade
The sea of black, the beaming heat on their faces
Then a figure emerges from the wastage
Eyes transfixed with a piercing gaze
One hand clutching a sword raised to the sky
They wonder how, they wonder why
The sky turns white, it all becomes clear
They felt lifted from their fears
They shed tears in the light
After 6 dark years
Young bold soldiers, the fire burns
Cracks and smolders
Five years older and wiser
The fires are burning on fire, never tire
Slay warriors in the forests and on higher
We sing, hear the strings rising
The war's over, the bells ring
Memories fading, soldiers slaying
Looks like geezers raving"
Turn The Page

"Make yourself miserable or make yourself strong- it takes the same amount of enegy"
Twitter February 2009

~~~~~
"For billions of years since the outset of time
Every single one of your ancestors has survived
Every single person on your mum and dad's side
Successfully looked after and passed on to you life.
What are the chances of that, like?
It comes to me once in a while
And everywhere I tell folk it gets the best smile".
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets - Appreciation Week. Day 2.
Day 2
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets Appreciation Week
Today is the celebration of
Everything Is Borrowed
THE ALBUM
Everything Is Borrowed is my favourite of all The Streets albums. I think this album is Mike Skinner at his finest to date.
A persons life span is a very short lived experience in comparison to our expectation of achievements. Some people are born takers, dog eat dog and all that. Then there are those who lead by the only example they know how, they are out there, they haven't necessarily been taught so they just give what they have and sometimes, most times in Mike Skinners case, what they give puts others to shame and teaches those of us who yearn to learn a better way of doing what we want to do.
Everything Is Borrowed is the perfect example.
Mike Skinner said to Dorian Lynskey of The Guardian
"I feel like we quite possibly mean nothing, but we've got this ability to appreciate ourselves and each other. We're only here for a nano-second, we'll probably be extinct, and we'll never know why, but don't you feel great to be alive?"
Every track on this album was worthy of single status imo. According to my playlists, these five video's are my most played songs on Everything Is Borrowed.
Listed in reverse order : Play these songs, share them on your blog and just enjoy the true greatness of each song.
Number 5
Never Give In
But I love you
~~~~~

Number 4

I Love You More (Than You Like Me)

I hardly even know you but I like what I know

~~~~~
Number 3
On The Edge Of A Cliff
Laying in the moss, in the same way I was would be another man looking like he needed a change of luck.
~~~~~

Number 2

Everything Is Borrowed

I came to this world with nothing
And I leave with nothing but love
Everything else is just borrowed

~~~~~
Number 1
This song is perfect in every way and I love this video. This song is rarely added to the setlist, but Mike Skinner performed this song live at the Camden Roundhouse 2008 and did a really beautiful job of it.
The Strongest Person I know
You gently take things slowly
You softly bowl them over
That's the delicate way you've shown me
You're the strongest person I know
Everything Is Borrowed was well worth all the stress it caused Mike Skinner in the making.
Mike Skinner Talking about The Escapist to Dorian Lynskey for The Guardian
"I walked from the start to the finish. Well that's what this album's about. It's a parable. It's about starting where you are and walking to where you think you want to be."
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets - Appreciation week. Day 1.
This week is all about Mike Skinner AKA The Streets.
Everyday will be about something Mike Skinner has created that means a lot to me and deserves that little bit extra respect for all it's greatness.
Mike Skinner AKA The Streets Appreciation week. Day 1.
Starts here with ...
The Crop Circle video's
So, what was it all about? well, in June 2009, Mike Skinner and his partner Ted Mayhem decided to make a crop circle.
Mike Skinner said "I just really like being creative, it's a lot of fun. Who gets the chance to carve a massive picture of their face into the side of a field? Really it's a big achievement in my life regardless of the show that we're doing at Glastonbury. My aim was for it to be seen from space. It hasn’t been the most stressful, but it has been the most taxing thing I’ve done in the last few months."
watch what happened here ...
The Streets Crop Circle Part 1
"Is there any way that you could create a kind of geometric shape out of music?"
Mike and Ted try and replicate the sound of music through crop circle patterns.
~~~~~~

The Streets Crop Circle Part 2
"I get disillusioned, but you don't walk away like that"

"That's the reason they don't do grass circles, they do corn circles, coz grass can't be encircled."

~~~~~~
The Streets Crop Circle Part 3
"It's not about smell. It's about vision, it's about sight, y'know it's about, like ... sight beyond sight y'know."
"Nothing lasts forever and we both know hearts can change"
