Swedish indie singer, Lykke Li's new single Sadness Is A Blessing is out today on LL Recordings/Atlantic Records and it is a hive of sheer indulgence - if you like that sort of thing - and a lot of us do because it can be a psychological blessing in times of sorrow and recovery.Lykke's voice is mesmerizing and timeless like a haunted heart, the music is heavy in beat. Sadness Is A Blessing has an essence about it that reminds me - with pleasure - of the Shangri Las - Leader Of The Pack.
In the video, Likke goes all out on a limb to demoralize and belittle Swedish actor Stellan Skarsgård's excellently portrayed character - for whatever it is he has done - publicly in a high society restaurant as she sits infront of him at the table, she downs shot after shot then laughs in his depreciated face before scraping her chair back to stand up. She is dancing within her drink-fuelled scorn triggered by sadness. She clearly succeeds in her mission as he watches on looking deeply hurt and perhaps even full of regret - if not only momentarily before he clears her face of her messed up hair and takes her in his arms - cautiously, she relents into his chest.
